Prof. Marwan Kamal Khraisheh


Has extensive academic and research leadership experience. In August 2024, he returned to Hamad Bin Khalifa University after serving as the Chair of the Mechanical Engineering Program at Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) for 4 years. Prior to joining TAMUQ, he was leading a number of portfolios at Qatar Foundation’s Hamad Bin Khalifah University (HBKU) spanning research, innovation, and digital learning. He also led QF’s Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) with a research staff of more than 150 to address energy, water and environment grand challenges. Before joining Qatar Foundation in 2014, Dr. Khraisheh was the Founding Dean of Masdar Institute which was established in Abu Dhabi in 2008 in partnership with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). At Masdar Institute, he led the establishment of the Institute including the development of eight MS and PhD degree programs focused on sustainable energy and advanced technology and recruited more than 70 faculty members from around the world. He also served as the Provost of Masdar Institute. Prior to joining Masdar Institute in 2008, Dr. Khraisheh was the Secat – Morris Endowed Professor and the Director of Undergraduate Studies at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kentucky in the US.

Dr. Khraisheh’ s research focuses on integrating mechanics and materials to develop novel concepts and technologies in smart and sustainable manufacturing.

Dr. Khraisheh is a recipient of several prestigious international awards including the US National Science Foundation CAREER Award, the Eugene Merchant Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), the Outstanding Research Paper Award from the North American Manufacturing Research Institute (NAMRI) and the Henry Mason Lutes Award for Excellence in Engineering Education. Dr. Khraisheh is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and a member of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP)
